FORT COLLINS:

Fort Collins is not called "The Choice City" for nothing. Those who visit, never want to leave! It is a 45 minute drive north of Denver and a short drive into the wilderness for camping, hiking, and skiing. The city, home to 142,000, offers a unique blend of natural beauty, cultural and recreation opportunities, and a strong economic base with diverse opportunities. RAM HOCKEY!
The CSU hockey teams are dedicated to providing the Fort Collins and Northern Colorado communities with quality performance and representation on and off the ice. We are a non-scholarship, non-profit organization with perennial success in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA). We are continually placed in the top 16 teams in the nation out of over 250 teams nation-wide and earn national team and individual honors every year. The Div.II  program has hosted the ACHA National Tournament twice (1995, 2006) and co-hosts the annual Western Classic Tournament (with CU). The Rams have made it to the Div.II semi-finals at Nationals in 3 of the last 5 years and last won the Championship in 1995.  The Div.III Rams attended their National Tournament in 2011, in just their 2nd year of existence.

Beyond hockey, the program provides students with an excellent opportunity for leadership and responsibility that will benefit them long after they hang up the skates.

CSU MEN'S 'Div.II' ICE HOCKEY:
The Rams are part of the ACHA Division II league (www.achahockey.org) and affiliated with USA Hockey. The team has flexibility with opponents and scheduling and plans a challenging and fun season every year to include trips around the nation and established rivalries with in-state teams Denver, Colorado, and Northern Colorado, as well as well as other top teams from around the nation.

The team plays 35-40 games a season starting with open tryouts in September and playing through the National Championships in March. We honor all school holidays to include an extended break over the holiday season and players miss few school days due to the 4-5 regular season road trips we take each year.

The team practices 2 times a week in the evenings to avoid conflict with class schedules and work and we get prime ice time for our weekend games.  The cost to play is approx. $1250/semester, and players have the opportunity to reduce their fees through sponsorships in the community.  Last year the Div.II Rams were 24W-9L vs ACHA Div.II opponents.

Div.II COACHES: Kelly Newton / Ryan Kenney
Kelly Newton, a Penticton BC native, has coached successfully in the ACHA since 1999 with Weber State DI and DII programs, Cal-State Long Beach and the past 4 years with Colorado State. He has a Masters Coaching Level with USA Hockey and lives with his wife, Suzanne, and three kids in Ft Collins CO.

Ryan Kenney, a Colorado Springs CO native, played four years for the Oklahoma D1 Sooners.  Ryan graduated from OU with a Mjr in Finance & Marketing, and then spent 6 months working for the US Army at the Pentagon.  Ryan is currently an Assistant Manager with Wells Fargo in Ft. Collins CO.  This will be Ryan's first season with the D2 Rams coaching staff.

You can contact Coach Newton at kanukz@yahoo.com with any questions.

CSU MEN'S 'Div.III' ICE HOCKEY:
The DIII Rams are part of the ACHA Division III league (www.achahockey.org) and are also affiliated with USA Hockey.  The DIII team practices 2x weekly, plays in 30+ games, and competes with in-state rivals such as Colorado University, Colorado College, Air Force, as well as the University of Wyoming.  In just their second year of existence last season, they reached the Div.III National Tournament held in Michigan and competed valiantly.  They finished the season 16W-13L vs ACHA D3 opponents.  This coming season the Div.III National Tourney will be held in New Jersey, and the Rams fully expect to be there to represent CSU!

Div.III COACHES:  Aaron Bain, Thomas Boileau, Mitch Benshoof

EPIC / BEC:

CSU practices and plays all home games at EPIC (Edora Pool and Ice Center) in Fort Collins, a 1,500 seat, two-rink facility that is a short drive from main campus and a few special games at the 5,500 seat BEC (Budweiser Events Center) in Loveland, CO, home of the CHL's Colorado Eagles.  They will also be playing again at the Pepsi Center this year vs arch-rival Colorado University, both last year's game (5-2 win for the Rams) and this year's game (5-4 win for the Rams) were attended by 6,000+ fans.
