Head Coach - Kelly Newton
Coach Newton is a native of Penticton, British Columbia. He grew up playing AAA Midgets in Penticton, and Junior hockey in BC. He started coaching in 1999 with Weber State D2 when they finished 3rd in the Nation, a team best. In 2000, Kelly helped coach Weber to the #1 Western seed and to the National Championship game where they lost to power house Life University. In 2001, he transferred to Los Angeles with his company where he helped coach Long Beach State and the Anaheim Jr Ducks Bantam AA program. In 2003, Coach Newton moved back to BC with his family, helping coach the Penticton AAA Midgets to the league title for the first time in 18 years. In 2006, Kelly joined coach Joe Sharrock at Colorado State. The team finished 3rd in ACHA D2, losing in the National Semi-finals to Michigan State. In 2007 the team finished 9th after a tough OT loss at Nationals, and then rebounded in 2008 to finish 4th after losing in the Semis to Davenport University. 2009 saw the Rams finish 2nd in the West, and 10th overall after two OT losses at Nationals. This past season the Rams finished 3rd in the West, and 13th Nationally after another tough loss to eventual champs Grand Valley State. Coach Newton's record as a Head Coach with the Rams is 46W-18L-1T vs Division II opponents.
Coach Newton has a Masters Coaching level with USA Hockey. He lives in Ft Collins with his beautiful wife Suzanne and his children Sierra, Kennedy, and Joshua. Coach Newton is also on the National Advisory Board for FCA Hockey.
